Token of love
These works of art hold a special place in my heart and have a distinguished personal significance, as the representation of the Lover’s Eyes is a token of my love story.
The theme for these paintings was inspired by the story of the “Lover’s Eye”, the miniature painted portraits, embedded into gem brooches, made famous by King George IV, as a token for his one true love, Maria Fitzherbert. This is a modern time interpretation of the story, inspiring you to share it as a gift to your closest ones, as a token of love and affection.
As all traditions evolve into deeper and more varied meanings and nuances, so did the “Lover’s Eye”, when Queen Victoria made them popular as objects symbolising a wider palette of affection tokens for family and friends.
The series includes a total of fourteen paintings, out of which the two main pieces visually represent the central subject of the story. Such as the gems framing the Lover’s Eyes miniature paintings had traditionally symbolised messages of love, affection, friendship, or even wisdom or protection, so do the other 12 paintings of the series, surrounding the main characters and having the role in spreading the word of love, peace, and affection into the world.
